Orbital Fractures - Eye injuries

An orbital fracture occurs when one of the bones of the orbit gets broken; the orbit, which is made up of 7 different bones, is the socket in which the eye sits.

Causes of orbital fractures

The most common causes of orbital fractures include trauma caused by direct impact or contact and accidents.

Treatment for orbital fractures

Treatment will depend on the severity of the injury; in many cases surgery will be required and emergency first aid treatment may be needed.

Preventing orbital fractures

Wearing protective eyewear during contact sports and wearing seat belts can reduce the possibility of suffering an orbital fracture; this will decrease the likelihood of impact during sports or in the event of an accident.
